Juni/June - Regenzeit / rainy season in Japan

Ajisai

Im Juni ist Regenzeit in Japan. Es ist der Monat der Feuerfliegen, blühenden Azaleen, Enten-Küken, Wasser Lilien, Satsuki Azaleen, Hanashobu oder Iris in deutsch, Ajisai oder in deutsch Gartenhortensie, Regenschirme & Sommer Jukata Verkäufe.

June the rainy season arrives in Japan. It`s the month of fireflies, blooming azalea, ducklings, water lilies, satsuma azaleas, hanashobu or iris in English, ajisai or hydrangea in English, umbrellas & summer yukata sales.

REGEN / RAIN

The morning news is reporting about rain and which region is effected. On this website everybody can get instant up-dates.

At the moment a taifun is approaching Japan. It unusual and out of the taifun season. It`s extreme seldom that a taifun hits Tokyo. Although it happend two years ago. At that time they closed all schools. A taifun brings a lot of rain and this is the dangerous part plus the strong gale. There is a huge underground canal systems which protects Tokyo from high floods. The water will be collected there and pumped direct to the sea. So the underground stations are safe from flooding.

If you are planning to come to Japan, don`t come in June. It`s really wet.

Countdown Neuseeland / New Zealand

In a few weeks we will leave for New Zealand. You most probably realized that I changed my blog title a little bit. I am not sure if I will leave it like it is or change it again. Still I will write about Japan because we will come back and we will also visit again. The next time in September of 2013. Than we have to celebrate the 33 anniversary of the death of my husbands grandfather. He will reincarnate and therefore we don't need to think about him again.

ARBEITS- & AUFENTHALTSERLAUBNIS - WORK PERMIT

Deutsch/englisch in Japan?
Two weeks ago we received our work permit for New Zealand. Emigration staff was very fast and friendly, only ten days until final approval. Still I haven't submitted my police clearance from Germany and Singapore. My German one arrived but in German language and it was impossible to find a German/English translator in Japan, so the whole thing had to go back to Germany for translation. For my police clearance from Singapore the police asked me to submit my passport from 1997 and 2006 and no, this was not a joke, they meant it seriously.
My best advice for everybody is to keep your old passports. This is not the first time that someone asked for it. When I applied for my driver license in Japan they wanted to see my old passports from Germany,  so they know I drove in Germany because I lived there.

I live at ....

RENTE - PENSION

The main issues like employment contract and salary negotiation are behind us.

We have friends in New Zealand and one thing they told us is that everybody gets pension if they work 10 years, even Expats or Immigrants. Approx. 1,000 Euro (more or less). So we check on that on the government website and it`s true. It calls NZ Super. So this was definitely a plus point in our decision making moving to New Zealand. Still there were many others but pension is important.

PUSTEKUCHEN!

Nope! A few days ago I started to search bilateral agreements between New Zealand and Germany or New Zealand and Japan. Reality kicked in because I discovered this website:

     Deutsch                    http://www.nzpensionprotest.com/deutsch
     English                     http://www.nzpensionprotest.com/Home/the-victims

Also erhalte ich nichts.
Everyone has to pay tax and also contribute to the pension cashier. When applying for pension with 65 the civil servant will ask, if you receive pension from Germany or Japan. If so, than this will be deducted from the New Zealand pension. Assuming i receive 1,300 NZ$ from Germany, they will deduct this from the New Zealand pension and I will receive nothing from New Zealand. It's unfair.

Leider!
I am paying pension in Germany and I have also minimum pension claim in Japan. Every German woman or man can get 4 years claim as nurture years for up-bringing kids but not me because I brought my kids up abroad. Now we have to think for another plan for the remaining years until we retire.

Many Immigrants to New Zealand only found out about it when they apply for Super NZ with 65 years old. Unbelievable, so unfair.  Worse it gets for intercultural couples. So if he/she is from another country and receives pension there, the spouse will not receive anything from Super NZ!!!

IPENZ

Ja, sagte man ihm, geht klar.
To be a member of this association is the basis for all engineer careers in NZ. It is also mentioned in the work agreement of my husband. Since this is such an important matter my hubby visited Wellington in March to find out if he fulfill all necessary requirements. Yes was the answer. So he signed the agreement with his employer .... and submitted his resignation with his old employer he worked for 30years.

PUSTEKUCHEN!

Nope again! Two weeks ago they told him that he is not eligible to be a member of this association. So his heart fell into his pants and he called them that their might be a mistake since he fulfilled all requirements.

Junge, Junge ...
o boy ....

Wuffti

WUFFTI STARTKLAR MACHEN
SENDING WUFFTI TO NEW ZEALAND

I read so much paper, 12 cm thick! After that you can do your exam as Vet.

A jumble of forms and all has to be filled out, kukududelidu!

Additional there is an action plan for up to 9 weeks, starting 7 weeks before Wuffti is leaving.

Allein
    dies ist ein halber Arbeitstag.
Booking Quarantine with a cheque. Sending a cheque from Japan is a huge effort and needs
special attention plus half a working day off.
2. Import Zulassung beantragen (Kreditkarte angeben ...)
Apply for Import Permit (credit card ....)
3. Zwischen 12 Monaten und 21 Tagen vor der Abreise ...
Vaccination between 12 months and 21 days before departure ...
4. 30 Tage vor der Abreise, dann nochmal 14 Tage ....
30 days before departure and than again 14 days before departure do this ....
usw.
usw.
and so on...

It cost us up to 6,000 Euro to bring our dog.

Wufft's Vet is a creepy, skinny non-english speaking Japanese and he is our neighbor who sometimes walks the street in his pyjama by night. I have always goose bumps when I am at his clinic. When we arrived he was operating on a cat, maybe a stray cat. We never met any other customers, we are the only once! So he told us that he needed another 10 minutes for the operation while we watched in horror through the window of the operation room.
Later he put the cat into a cage and covered it with newspaper ... really, this is nothing for me and Wuffti who sat on my lap. Even Wuffti has goose bumps.

UMZUGSFIRMEN - MOVER

Three quotations!

1. Allied Pickfords
2. Santa Fe
3. Unyusho

This is the easiest task. They will pack everything. I don't think the move is big work at all. A few forms to fill out and that's it.

MÖBLIERTES HAUS FINDEN IN NEUSEELAND
FINDING A FURNISHED HOUSE IN NZ

Our container will be four to eight weeks on it's way to New Zeland and we need furnished accommodation.

Due to the big earthquake in 2011, Christchurch has limited housing and accommodation and houses are expensive.

Toll!
So we search for a suitable house on trademe. Our friends left for their south europe holiday, so we had nobody to look at a house. Besides, rumors are telling us that it's difficult to get one. Landlords are DIVAS and as a tenant you have to kiss the floor they walk on, or so. So my husband pressured me to choose a house asap from the Internet, only photos. Great!

I am pretty sure that it's a hovel because this was the only agent who wrote back. Whine! All other didn't need to write back..... all pictures are probably and allegedly photoshopped!

Well, another 4 weeks ... but we have a roof over our heads.

MEIN GARTEN
MY GARDEN

Also eine Sorge weniger.
Our garden is as big as 6 bath towels beside each other and when we moved in it was like a jungle. I love my garden and it's close to me heart. So I bought huge flower pots and all kinds of plants to make it homely and net. When we move out this July, a team of "gardener" will come and cut down everything with an electric grass cutter and saw, terrible. So my first thought was to bring my flowers to safety. So the large flower pots and my Azalea (which turned out to be Petunia) found an immediate new owner. My Orange tree for good luck left first. So one less sorrow for me.

REIS - RICE

Huch! Den kann ich nicht mitnehmen. Biosecurity Problem, wer hätte das gedacht.
We are not allowed to bring rice because of biosecurity reasons, I would never imagine that.

SCHULE - SCHOOL

Also hier habe ich erstmal aufgegeben.
I stop searching. Actually I had a High school for the boys but the problem is that all school have school zones and we might not find a house in that area.

SAYONARA PARTIES

A. has set a date and he will be out with the boys. Sato San has so many parties that there will be hardly a day he comes sober home. ..... M. has not parties and I have 1 big one and two smaller ones. For M. I will have a surprise....

Bis dann ...
See you ...

Tokyo Akihabara - Electronik Stadtteil - electronic town

2013.05.

We had visitors from Germany and one of the main attraction, Akihabara, we visited first.  This is also reachable with the Yamanote line

OTAKU

Akihabara is famous as electronic town and a hot spot for Otaku people. Otaku are people who have a strong interest mainly in Manga and Anime. Mainly an obcessive interest in any hobby,  like Hello Kitty or car tuning... at least that's what I am thinking.

Die Jungs waren nicht zu überhören! They were very loud!

Every tourist who is not interested in electronics or otaku items should avoid Akihabara. I am not a fan of this part of town. Although I do like Yodobashi Camera but you can find this shop also in other locations. If you have teenager, maybe you have to go, depends on what KIND of teenager you have. My boys like the electronic part of Akihabara but they are not into Otaku goods.

If you zoom in on this map on google, you will find additional shops,
described in English.

RADIO
- ELEKTRONISCHE GEBRAUCHT-TEILE-MARKT -
- used electronic parts market -

Original war dies ein Gebrauchtteilemarkt.
The origin of this market was a used spare part market for radios and electronic goods.

This market is located under the station. You can find it on the map above under 3. This market is very interesting. It reminds me on Sim Lim Square's (Singapore) higher floors where you could find used electronic parts, surveillance cameras and used computer.

AKIHABARA STADTTEIL REISEFŪHRER
AKIHABARA GUIDE

Auf dieser Seite findet ihr diesen Fūhrer:
Link:

We went to Akky and Akky II. I was bored from both shops and cannot recommend any. You could find souvenir items in both shops. Otherwise it was all about camera, video and accessory plus travel bags.

Although you can find international plugs, if you need one.

YODOBASHI CAMERA

I love this shop and can only recommend it. As I said before, you can find it also in other areas.

MAID CAFE & BUTLER CAFE

All thumbs up for the guys! Guys should take a look and have a beer there. You will be treated like a king (no sex, don`t get any ideas - just talk). It`s a typically Japanese man pass time and no, my husband is not going there but he is allowed to! I rather talk a lot and that`s seems to be enough for my hubby. Well, I also don`t wear the Maid Uniform... :).

The counterpart for the ladies is the butler cafe but I am not sure if you can find it in Akihabara. In Shibuya is one.

FLOHMARKT - FLEAMARKET

We visited Akihabara in the golden week and at the same time there was a flea market, I think it was the Sunday at the end of the golden week.

ESSEN - FOOD

In diesem Gebäude gibt es gute Restaurant.
In this building were good restaurants.

KOBU INARI SCHREIN

We found this little shrein at a corner.

Goldene Woche - golden week

In diesem Jahr hauptsächlich innerhalb Japans.

The first full week of holidays in 2013. Whole Japan is on vacation similar to the Obon holidays in August. Only a few people has to work. CNN reported that approx. 20% of japanese population is on the move to a holiday destination. This year mainly within Japan.

WARUM GOLDENE WOCHE?

29. April Shōwa Tag
3. Mai Verfassungstag
4. Mai Tag der Natur
5. Mai Kinder Tag

Why they call it golden week?
Many holidays are during this week. During this time of the year many leisure industries reporting higher revenue. In 1951 the movie Jiyū Gakkō made a record high ticket sale, more than during Obon or New Year. Therefore the managing director of Daei Film Co. named this the golden week.

29. April Shōwa Day
3. May Constitution Memorial Day
4. Greenery Day
5. Children Day

Also genug Abenteuer in diesem Jahr für mich.

WE
The past years were enough experience and I am really fed up with herd holidays. If the crowd at Tokyo station is not enough than you should go to Nikko, Kyoto or somewhere else in Japan and enjoy it. Blanc horror!

An alternative is to fly abroad. China, Korea, everything which is 1 to 4 hours away. Since I am almost 16 years living in Asia I am a lit bit tired of it and it's in the moment enough. I do not need to see another wet market or a traffic jam in Shanghai. At the moment my longing for holiday is on a scale from 1 to 10 at cero! Mainly because we move to New Zealand, again a move, this time to the southern hemisphere. I have never been there. To much adventure in one year for me, enough!

To be honest, Tokyo is the best when everybody is gone and it's a lot of fun to watch one of the tourist attractions or things you always wanted to see.

FILME

MOVIES
Of course we went to the movies this week. This is the main preoccupation of my husband this week. Looking for new and old movies. We saw Iron Man 3, Unforgiven (an old Clint Eastwood Movie), Trouble with the curve, Bagdad Cafe and Graceland.

MEINE SCHWESTER

MY SISTER
This faithful soul told me that she will visit us this week but a bereavement within her present boy friends family changed her plans. She had to go to the funeral. Until than I could convince my husband to stay at home. This changed after we got her message.

NEUSEELAND
So so....

New Zealand

So we passed our first two days of the golden week with visiting the Immigration office of New Zealand. A very friendly lady, only praises for her. My husbands working permit needed a lot of paper work. Additional we needed medical examination, which cost 27,000 Yen per person. Than a Certificate of Clearance from Japan. I need the Certificate of Clearance from Japan, Singapore and Germany. Since I am German, lived 9 years in Singapore and another 5 years in Japan. Both Certs need time and of course we couldn't submit them on time.
To apply for the singaporean CoC I need to fill out a form which asked for my race. This reminded me on my first form in Singapore. I thought a hidden camera is somewhere and someone makes a joke with me. I couldn't believe that I had to write down my race. Anyway, what race am I? I didn't know. Am I .... , no. Than a Chinese man told me: "You are caucasian". AHA, soso.
For the CoC application I need my fingerprints taken in Japan for the Singaporean CoC. The form suggested that a police station in Japan has to do it but the police in Japan is not doing it. So I went to the German Embassy. This cicil servant suggested to fly to Singapore (Comicer). They are always helpful (just joking meaning useless) civil servant. Well, I learnt something in Asia: There is always a way around it. So we found a company who took my fingerprints, we had to pay 30,000 Yen, cheaper than flying to Singapore and sleeping in a hotel.

Yes, and our application will process in China, where else! In two weeks we will know more!

M.

M.
My little one needs suddenly spectacle. At the medical examination for New Zealand they found out.  I went with him all two to three years to check his eyes. Well, we went to Sogo in Yokohama. If you love shopping and good food, Sogo is the place. In the 9th floor you will find excellent restaurants.

So M. choose glasses from Yoko Ono and John Lennon. How this happen? If the Japanese father is a big fan of John Lennon and persuade his easy to influent 13 year old son into it, it happens.

KONFIRMATION
Also werden beide konfirmiert.

CONFIRMATION
In two weeks is the confirmation of my boys. The little one is my trouble buddy and he got kicked out of school. Since then non of his friends showed up at our door steps or called, so I thought the best is to let him join the church with is elder brother. At least he has little contact with the outside world. So both need suits. They are two different characters. M. got a suit from Sarah, young and hip. A. got a suit from Aoki, one of the major suit companies in Japan, very conservative. So I will show some picture after the confirmation takes place.

Das will keiner.

MY HUSBAND TURNS 50
Yes, he turns fifthy and I think some of you realize that the reason why we go to New Zealand could be a midlife crisis, at least I was thinking that.  He works since 25 years for one company and wanted to retire with them. Suddenly he decided to change. Well, one reason seems to be the booting out of our little one from the German School. Would should we do with a child at home. We could go to Germany but than the family would live separate lives. Nobody wants this. We could sent him to an english school but at that time we didn`t think of that and we were not prepared for the booting out of school. There were 6 individuals all involved and only one got sacked.  A little suspicious. Only my hubby worked for a Japanese company, all other father worked for German companies. Who knows what were the motivation of this teachers?

I collected pictures from his childhood and made a photo album of it. He had no photos of himself when he was young. I asked his Mum. Above shows a photo of S. San with his grandmother and his elder brother. S. San his on his grandmother back.

Our second present is a jar of 100 reasons why we love him.

KINDER TAG

CHILDREN`S DAY
Kodomo-no-hi is also the birthday of my husband. At the same time it is children`s and boy`s day. Homes who have sons will decorate their yard with carp flags, like the one on top of this page. Additional little altars are decorated with samurai helmets. An example you can see above. I took photographs in a shop and those are very expensive. The below photo show a whole samurai armament.
The carp are flying in the wind like fishes who swims upstream. In a chinese legend they are telling that carp swimming upstream are becoming dragons. So boys will be as strong as dragons. Additional parents will pray for their health, power and luck.

You see, the golden week is really a very busy week!
